Brett Maddox, 25, of Springdale, was sentenced Monday (May 13) to eight years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Maddox pleaded guilty to the offense on Jan. 29.

The charge stemmed from an Aug. 29, 2012 traffic stop in Fayetteville. According to a report from the United States Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, Maddox acted nervous as officers approached his vehicle and refused to get out of the car.

He reached under his seat, the report states. The officers patted Maddox down and found methamphetamine and marijuana in his pocket. After being arrested, Maddox admitted to having a gun under his seat.

Maddox was previously convicted of residential burglary in Washington County in 2008.
