Is Coke’s secret recipe out of the bag?

That’s what Cliff Kluge thinks. CNN reports he and his wife bought a box of letters at an estate sale for $100. Inside, they found a recipe for cola dated  from 1943. The couple, who live in Ringgold, Georgia, are convinced it’s Coca Cola’s secret recipe.

What leads them to this, you ask? Kluge tells the media, “On the last page, on page 83 it says the extractor is the original Coca Cola formula. That’s what I’m basing most of this on, they (the owners of the estate) had access to the original formula.”

As for what the powers that be at Coke have to say about all of this, they have issued this statement, “Through the years many have tried to crack the secret formula, but no one has been able to reproduce the “real thing.” The real formula is safely tucked away in a vault at the world of Coca-Cola in Atlanta.”

The story goes the original recipe was written down in 1919 as collateral for a loan–and stayed in the bank vault until in 2011 when it was taken to the vault at the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta.

Could it be the real recipe just rewritten? Kluge sure does think so, and he’s hoping it might make him a millionaire. He’s posted the recipe on Ebay. The initial bid is $5 million dollars, or you can “buy now” for $15 million.
