Rogers Baseball Heads to School’s First Ever State Title Game

The Rogers baseball team upset North Little Rock and Bryant on their way to the school’s first ever state championship game.

The Rogers baseball team was firing on all cylinders this past week at the 7A State Baseball Tournament.  The pitching was lights out.  Three pitchers pitched complete games and allowed a combined total of two runs.  The offense was on fire as well, scoring 21 runs over a three game span. The excitement of making the state finals is still fresh on the players minds.

"Even after the weekend I still kind of feel like I'm right there," said senior Austin Griffin.  "The adrenaline is still pumping, the mood is still up beat and we are all feeling really good about it."

The team entered the tournament as a fourth seed.  No one expected the Mounties to get past North Little Rock and the quarterfinals, but it was their belief in each other that made it possible.

"In games it doesn't matter what the situation is we are always up and about in the dug out," said senior Camdon Myers.  "We always keep an upbeat attitude and always stay positive."

"They are all about each other," said Head Coach Matt Melson.  "They displayed that all year long.  They really have a good work ethic.  They are the definition of a team."

This is the first time in school history the Mounties have made the state finals.  They will face 7A West rival Fayetteville a team who beat them twice early in the regular season.  The team knows if they play Rogers style baseball they can come away as state champs.

"We have to continue doing the little things right," said Griffin.   "We need to continue error less baseball and continue swinging the bat.  We need to get in a good week of practice and hopefully the game with take care of itself."
