A University of Arkansas student was killed Wednesday night when he jumped from a moving car on a Missouri highway and was run over by a semi-truck, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

Solomon T. Simpson, 19, of Fayetteville, was a passenger in a Honda Accord that was westbound on Interstate 44 in Leclede County, when he exited the vehicle, the report states. He sustained injuries from hitting the pavement and was then run over by a Freightliner 18-wheeler driven by Donald Clayton, 62, of Winder, Ga., according to state police.

The collision occurred at about 11:21 p.m., and Simpson was pronounced dead by the county coroner just after midnight. No one else was injured, and Simpson’s body was transported to Holman Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon, Mo.

Simpson is a sophomore at the university, according to the UA directory.

Tevin Whitney, 18, of Fayetteville, was driving the passenger car that Simpson allegedly jumped from, the crash report states.

No one else was at the scene of the crash.
