Memorial Day is just days away, which for many is the “unofficial start” of summer. It appears the same goes for Arkansas State Police. Monday, May 20th kicks off the nationwide “Click It Or Ticket” campaign in an effort to crack down on drivers not using seat belts.
You’ll probably notice an increased presence of patrols as state, county, and city law enforcement take part in the annual campaign. “As we kick-off the busy summer driving season, it’s important that everyone buckle up on every trip, every time, both day and night – no excuses,” said Colonel Stan Witt, Director of the Arkansas State Police and Governor’s Highway Safety Representative. “Our troopers are committed to this lifesaving initiative and prepared to ticket anyone not wearing their seat belt.”
In 2011, seat belts saved an estimated 11,949 lives nationwide, according to NHTSA. Statistics also show more deadly accidents involving unbuckled drivers happen at night.
This year’s Click It or Ticket enforcement mobilization runs from May 20 through June 2nd, however, officers remind you they are enforcing seat belt laws year round.
