Rogers resident Jana Della Rosa announced Tuesday (May 21) she is running for the state House District 90 seat in Benton County.

The 36-year-old wife and mother of two children vowed to work toward improving education in Arkansas and creating job growth. She also said she will “work to represent conservative values.”

“I believe in smaller government (and) lower taxes for working families,” Della Rosa, a Republican, said in a news release. “I am pro-life and support the Second Amendment.”

Della Rosa serves on the board of directors of the political action committee Conservative Arkansas. She also is a member of the Benton County Republican Committee and the Benton County Republican Women.

The current representative in District 90, Les “Skip” Carnine, R-Rogers, is prohibited by term limits from seeking re-election.

District 90 includes parts of Rogers, Lowell, Bethel Heights, Springdale and Cave Springs.

According the her news release, Della Rosa grew up in Springdale and met her husband of 15 years, Russell, while both attended the University of Arkansas. She graduated at the top of her class in industrial engineering but became a sales analyst, then national account manager, for Bentonville-based Church and Dwight Co. Inc., overseeing all laundry detergent sales to Walmart, the news release states.

“A lot of people wonder why I went into sales instead of engineering after college,” she said in the release. “The fact is there were extremely few I.E. jobs available in Northwest Arkansas at graduation time, so I had to decide whether to move or to change fields. I changed fields because I love Northwest Arkansas. That’s why education and job creation are so important to me.  I don’t want Arkansas’ future, our children, to have to move away to get a good education or to find a job.”

The general election is in November 2014. Della Rosa is the only announced candidate to date.

Della Rosa’s mother, Patsy Wootton of Springdale, is executive director of Conservative Arkansas, whose campaign efforts have been credited with helping elect legislators such as Sens. Jon Woods, R-Springdale, and Bart Hester, R-Cave Springs. The PAC’s recent monthly meetings in Rogers have included speakers such as U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and 2013 state House Speaker Davy Carter, R-Cabot.
