Loughridge Looking To Bring Tradition Back

Airedales wrap up spring football Friday with Green-Gold game.

It's obvious that Doug Loughridge is trying to bridge the past and the future of Alma football.

The new head coach went back to the traditional green helmets. Now he's trying to get the Airedales back to their traditional spot: near the top of class 5A.

" thought we had a great couple weeks of spring ball," Loughridge said. "The kids were tired of being in the weight room and running and conditioning. It's great to get out here to get a little football taste in our mouth. What we want to do is get that little taste in our mouth just where they are going to be anxious for August and excited whenever August gets here for two-a-days."

Loughridge took the Alma job just before Christmas last winter but his players say it's taken him little time to put his impression on the program.

"We got coach Loughridge and he's pushing us a ton," senior Reyn Buckham said. "It is a lot different than last year and I think it is really showing now."

Physicality is expected with any Loughridge team and senior Keith Shultz said the Airedales are getting there.

"It was great. I feel like we did some good things with the team," Shultz said. "Every one is getting better as time goes on. I feel like we are more physical and just ready to go for this next season."

The Airedales battle Van Buren in the season opener on Sept. 6 in the "Battle of the Bone".
