Oklahoma Heads To Virginia Tech Regional After Big XII Title

Sooners headed to Blacksburg to begin the Road to Omaha

Fresh off a Big XII tournament title, the Oklahoma Sooners will start their Road to Omaha in Blacksburg, Virginia.

The Sooners (40-19) are led by Sallisaw native Matt Oberste, who drove in four runs in the 7-2 title game win against Kansas on Sunday. Oberste is hitting .382 for Oklahoma while driving in 58 runs and has 33 extra base hits.

Oklahoma was ranked in the top 15 for most of the season but the Sooners lost nine of their last 11 games heading into the Big XII tournament.

Virginia Tech (38-20) will face UCONN (34-26) in the opening round while Oklahoma takes on Coastal Carolina (37-21). The winner of the Blacksburg regional will face the winner of the Baton Rouge Regional, likely at LSU.

Oklahoma State received an at-large bid into the tournament as a No. 3 seed at the Louisville regional. The Cowboys (39-17) will take on traditional power Miami (36-23) in the opening round. Louisville (46-12) will host Bowling Green (24-29). The winner of the Louisville regional will face the winner of the Nashville regional where Vanderbilt is the host.

Kansas State is the only Big XII school to host a regional as they will face Arkansas, Bryant and Wichita State in the Manhattan regional.
