A Delaware County man died Wednesday from injuries sustained Tuesday night following a car crash that also killed a two-year-old toddler and another passenger.
Police said none of the three victims were using safety restraints, and the vehicle was speeding.
Casey Lee Dean Nelson, 22, of Bernice, Okla., was driving a 1974 Ford pickup truck on County Road 250 just north of Grove when the vehicle struck a tree and rotated 90 degrees, before coming to rest against another tree, according to a crash report from Oklahoma state police.
Nelson was extracted by emergency crews using the jaws of life. He was evacuated by helicopter to Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo., where he was in critical condition with head, arm, leg and internal injuries. He died from his injuries Wednesday night at 8:39 p.m., the crash report states
Kayla Deann Hull, 23, and Kane Alexander Hull, 2, both died at the scene of the crash Tuesday night. They were transported to Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, according to the crash report.
The vehicle was traveling over the legal limit at the time of the fatal crash, the report states. The adults were not using seatbelts, and the young child had no child restraints, according to state police. The two adults were ejected from the car during the crash.
