Springdale Police are warning residents about a scam involving the city’s free weather alert system.

A woman told police she received a phone call from a man claiming he was with the city and that it was a paid service. In order to continue receiving weather alerts, she would be required to give him some financial information, the caller said.

The woman immediately hung up the phone and notified authorities.

The Springdale Alert Notification System is a free service that provides real-time updates during emergencies.

The only fee that could be associated with this service would whatever a resident’s wireless provider charges for text messaging, according to police.

If you’ve fallen victim to this scam or received a similar call, please notify Springdale Police at 479-751-4542 or the SPD Tip Line at 479-750-4484.
