The Arkansas basketball team will have another Fayetteville player on the roster. 2013 graduate Manny Watkins will be a preferred walk on, head coach Mike Anderson said on Sports Talk with Bo Thursday.

Watkins was going to sign with Missouri State but didn’t show up for signing day last month. It turns out, Arkansas made a late offer and Watkins changed his mind. Coach Anderson now has another guard in his line up to work with.

“He’s a tough kid,” said Anderson. “He embodies what I’m about and that’s a guy who’s going to be blue collar. He has a chance to come in and really help our basketball team. He’s got the body and got the size for a guard.”

Watkins averaged 15 points and 6 rebounds per game last season for Fayetteville. He also the son of Arkansas assistant basketball coach Melvin Watkins.

Watkins will now be the third Fayetteville player on the team, with Fred Gulley Jr. and Kikko Haydar.
