The start of the NCAA tournament regional in Manhattan, Kan. could not have gone any worse for Arkansas.

Bryant held Arkansas to just three hits and stole a 4-1 win to advance in the winner’s bracket. The Razorbacks will face Wichita State in an elimination game Saturday afternoon.

Arkansas had plenty of chances but a pair of failed bunt attempts led to the Hogs downfall. The biggest blunder came in the 6th as Arkansas had runners on first and second with no outs but Dominic Ficociello popped up a bunt to the catcher. The Bryant backstop made the catch and then doubled off Tyler Spoon at second to kill the rally.

“We did a worse job of driving in runs,” said head coach Dave Van Horn. “We had a chance to blow it open in the 5th, but had two strikeouts with the bases loaded. We didn’t deserve to win the game, and we didn’t.”

Barrett Astin saw his quality outing wasted as he got a no decision after going seven innings and allowing just one unearned run. Astin stuck out seven, allowed seven hits and did not give up a walk.

Salvatore Lisanti picked up the win for Bryant as he threw the final four innings without allowing and hit and walked just two.

Arkansas’s season comes down to one game. Saturday’s match up with Wichita State starts at 2 pm.

“We got a bunch of strong-hearted guys on this team that don’t want our season to be cut short,” said Dominic Ficociello. “We’re going to have to battle but I think we can do it.”
