Pitching wasn’t exactly premium when host Kansas State took on Wichita State in the Manhattan regional.

Kansas State pounded out 20 runs on 19 hits to post a 20-11 win against the Shockers in the regional opener.

Ross Kivett and Jon Davis each drove in four runs for the Wildcats while both Austin Fisher and Mitch Meyer drove in three.

Wichita State scored a pair of runs in top of the first but the Wildcats answered with nine runs in the home half of the inning. The Shockers need three pitchers to get out of the first inning.

The two teams combined for 31 runs, 31 hits, used 12 pitchers and were on the field for nearly four hours. No pitcher threw more than two 1/2 innings.

Wichita State got three RBI from both Johnny Coy and Casey Gillaspie.

Kansas State will face the winner of the Arkansas-Bryant game Saturday at 7 p.m.
