Arkansas lives to play for at least one more day after a 3-1 win against Wichita State in an elimination game at the Manhattan, Kan. regional.

Ryne Stanek allowed just one run on three hits in 7 1/3 innings to will the Hogs to the victory despite a season- high six walks.

“He has done a great job all year of getting out of jams,” said head coach Dave Van Horn. ‘We leave him in a lot longer than we do other guys because he finds a way.”

Stanek got the start with the season hanging in the balance after a 4-1 loss to Bryant Friday night.

“I do not really think about coming in after a loss like it’s any different,” said Stanek. “I was able to work out of some walk issues…which was good for me. I am just glad we got the win.”

Stanek improved to 5-0 this season pitching after Arkansas lost the game before.

Arkansas was better at the plate than they were against Bryant. They had 12 hits but only managed to score in two innings.

The Hogs got on the board in the first with a two-run single by Tyler Spoon. But then they went cold for most of the game. Brett McAfee finally added the insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single that scored Jacob Mahan to make it 3-1.

With the score still 3-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth, Arkansas called on closer Colby Suggs, who recorded his 13th save of the year, a new Arkansas single-season record.

With the win, the Hogs advance in the bracket to play the loser of Saturday night’s Bryant- Kansas State loser.

“Anything can happen,” said Van Horn. “We feel like whoever loses this game, sometimes they get down a little bit and if we get on them early in the game anything can happen tomorrow night.”

First pitch in Sunday’s elimination game will be 2:05 pm.
