Conway resident Rhonda Wood, an Arkansas Court of Appeals judge, announced Monday (June 3) she is seeking a seat on the Arkansas Supreme Court.

Wood is running for the seat held by North Little Rock attorney Cliff Hoofman, a former legislator appointed by Gov. Mike Beebe in November 2012 to fill the term of retired Justice Robert Brown.

No other candidate has announced in the Supreme Court Position 3 race in the May 2014 election. Hoofman’s term expires on Dec. 31, 2014.

Wood, a graduate of Hendrix College and the Bowen School of Law, said in a news release the Arkansas Constitution “will be my guide.”

“After serving as circuit judge and now as judge on the Court of Appeals, I’m convinced more than ever that our judiciary needs fresh leadership,” she said in the release. “My personal values are Arkansas values – faith, family, hard-working, conservative values.

“All Arkansans should know that I will apply the same judicial philosophy as a Supreme Court Justice that has guided me as a judge for the last 7 years,” she continued in the release. “I will exercise fairness, judicial restraint, and consistency in decision-making to better serve Arkansans.”

She and her husband, Dr. Michael Wood, have four children.
