Monday (June 3) people packed up and left the 10th Wakarusa Music Festival on Mulberry Mountain in Franklin County.

The four day festival kicked off last Thursday and now volunteers are cleaning up in preparation for Thunder on the Mountain, a country music festival.

“As soon as we get everyone out here, all the cars out and all the people out then Thunder on the Mountain starts on Thursday so, we really have about 2 days,” said Rebecca Venkauskas, publicist.

Owner of Turner Bend store, Brad Wimberly said it’s been a couple of weeks and business has more than doubled.

“It’s been busy for ten days or longer, we had a really busy Memorial weekend and that just bled into the arrival of Wakarusa folks and they're just now leaving town,” said Wimberly.

Volunteers from across the country work to get Mulberry Mountain in shape for the country music festival which will feature big name country artists like Luke Bryan, Toby Keith and Big and Rich.

“I think that there are over a thousand volunteers.  They're coming from all over which is really great to have their help,” said Venkauskas

A group of 400 volunteers from Atlanta came in to help out.

“We deploy our volunteers to the recycle program and all day they are in charge of cleaning up picking up all the trash around and sorting it all,” said Rachel Menter with Work Exchange team which is a volunteer management program.

Volunteers said  the biggest issue is cars trying to get out of the mud.

For two days heavy rain fell over Wakarusa, which caused some havoc for people trying to leave today.

“Definitely for people getting out of here the mud is an issue. People are trying to figure out how to get through the Mud and they're getting stuck in it but we got lots of tow trucks, locksmiths. People are out there helping out others as much as possible, that's what we are here for,” said Menter.

Thunder on the Mountain begins Thursday June 6th and wraps up June 8th.
