Jiroeman Kimura, 116 years old, died in Japan early Wednesday morning. He held the title of the world’s oldest person. Reports show the former postman died of natural causes in a hospital in his hometown.

The Guinness World Records recognized Kimura to be the world’s oldest living person, and as the oldest man whose age had ever been identified. A rival claimant to the title, Luo Miezhen, claimed to be 127 and died just days before. However, Miezhen’s age was not officially recognized internationally.

Kimura retired in 1962 and credited his long life to light eating.

The world’s oldest person is now Misao Okawa from Japan who is 115 years old.
