The community of Spiro, Okla., is grieving after the drowning of 19-year-old Timothy Thompson at Bluff Hole Park in Mulberry.
A 911 call came in Monday (June 10) around 6 p.m. to the Crawford County Sheriff’s office.
Those who knew Thompson said he was a remarkable young man.
"He was a good kid, he was a respectable kid," family friend Sam Lowrimore said. "I remember when he started driving his first pick up."
Thompson commuted from Spiro to Fort Smith where he worked at Taco Bell. Those that worked with him said he was just genuinely a nice guy.
"He was friendly he always had a smile on his face a really nice guy," a Taco Bell employee said.
"It's a young life that's gone. A lot of us parents are having to bury our children when really we shouldn’t be having to," Lowrimore said.
Thompson attended church at Grace Community Church in Spiro. He played the drums and even taught vacation bible school.
"He started playing when he was probably thirteen or fourteen,” said Judy Moore.
"He helped out at vacation bible school over at Grace. It's a church over here in Spiro and the kids loved him. I mean they really did. My son was really upset to hear about what happened," said family friend Sean Cox.
Pastor Wess McLaughlin said his services may be held at Mallory’s Funeral home in Spiro. McLaughlin also said he is expecting up to 500 of his friends to attend Thompson’s services.
"He was real nice and sweet and caring and just an all-around good person," said Debra Holson.
As the community grieves, Thompson’s spirit and smile will never be forgotten.
