Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart was voted Oklahoma Sheriff of the Year by his peers Friday night.

Lockhart was awarded at the 2013 Oklahoma Sheriff Conference that culminated Friday. The four-day event brought sheriffs from across the state for training, exhibits and special events to Tulsa.

“It’s always an honor when the other sheriffs recognize you,” Lockhart said. “It was a surprise to me. I wasn’t even expecting it.

“Any sheriff would love to have it.”
