Charity Workout “Sweatin’ for Seth” will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, at Gans High School Gym in Gans, Okla.

The combat-style family workout session is aimed at raising donations for a local family dealing with overwhelming medical costs.

Seth Allen and his twin Malachi were born premature and suffered RSV when they were infants. They spent three weeks on life support in a medically induced coma.

Malachi recovered and healthy. But as a toddler Seth dealt with seizures and developmental problems.

At 11 months, an MRI revealed as an infant he’d suffered a devastating stroke, which doctors believed would have left his in a vegetative state. But he continues to strive and survive.

At age 5 and only 27 pounds, Seth suffers from Cortical Visual Impairment and Cerebral Palsy.

According to his mother Trish, because of his tight muscle tone and damaged lungs, Seth’s body burns calories at a rate of a marathon runner. It’s nearly impossible for the child to eat enough to sustain him.

SoonerCare, a Oklahoma medical cost assistance program for children, has since stopped paying for Seth’s feeding tube, his mother said. A month’s worth of medical supplies, not including formula, costs the family more than $400. Because of this, Seth’s mother says they stretch the supplies as long as they safely can, which includes reusing formula bags and not changing out equipment as regularly as recommended.

Saturday’s charity workout event is aimed to raise money for Seth’s needs. Donations will be accepted at the door or can be dropped off at Roland Pharmacy in Seth’s name.

Other donations suggests: size 4 diapers, baby wipes, PediaSure, or Kids’ Boost drinks, Gerber Puffs, Cheetos Puffcorn, or pudding cups.

The family lives in Gans, Okla. An exercise enthusiast, mom Trish leads three workouts at day at her church.
