A Fayetteville man faces multiple charges after he was arrested when a hotel told police he had refused to pay for his hotel room for two consecutive nights.

Austin Forrest, 29, was booked in the Washington County Detention Center on Sunday evening and has not had a bond amount set, according to the Sheriff Department’s website. Forrest faces charges that include first-degree criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft of services.

A preliminary police report said Fayetteville police were called by Homewood Suites by Hilton on Palak Drive at approximately 1:02 p.m. Sunday because a man had refused to pay his bill on Saturday or Sunday and had locked himself in a room. When officers knocked on the door to the room, a man identified as Forrest opened the door then slammed it when he saw it was police at the door, the report said.

Officers opened the door and found that Forrest had locked himself in the bathroom with a sheet over the shower door to hide, the report said. When officers attempted to speak to Forrest, he believed he was speaking to Jennifer Lopez or Gwen Stefani, the report said.

Officers forced their way into the bathroom but Forrest refused to comply to commands from the officers, the report said. Forrest was handcuffed, the report said.

The report said there was $2,500 damage to the room, a $168.74 unpaid hotel room bill, and officers said there were used syringes and a spoon with white, powdery substance and blood on it. Officers said Forrest’s speech was slurred and believed to be intoxicated, the report said.

The report said Forrest also faces charges of resisting arrest, criminal trespass and obstruction of governmental operations.
