Ronnie Brewer Puts On 7th Annual Brew Crew Camp

Ronnie Brewer received a governor’s commendation from Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe for his community work.

On the final day of the Brew Crew Camp Friday, Ronnie Brewer was honored by our state's government.

Brewer received a governor's commendation from Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe. This is the seventh year for the camp, but Brewer's work throughout the community, including the Ronnie Brewer Foundation, also warranted the award.

"It's a great experience," said Brewer. "Every year gets bigger and better. It continues to grow and it means a lot to me to give back to the kids and give back to the community. I really enjoy doing it."

Hundreds of kids from grades 1-12 packed the Fayetteville Boys and Girls club all week, eager to receive instruction from the former Hog superstar.

Brewer was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder late in the 2012-2013 season from New York.

Before his time in New York Brewer played for the Chicago Bulls, where he became good friends with current Bulls guard Jimmy Butler. Butler was also in attendance for this year's Brew Crew. Butler calls Brewer a "big brother" to him.

"That's the kind of standup guy Ronnie is," said Butler. "He's willing to go the extra mile for the community and these kids. It shows he's a great basketball player, but as a person he's even greater."

The Fayetteville native says he doesn't plan on stopping his yearly trip for the camp any time soon.
