Southtown Sporting Goods in Fayettteville sells machetes, ranging in size from four to 18 inches and costing anywhere from $10 to $30 dollars.
Workers at Southtown say machetes are a useful tool, especially for agriculture needs.
“It’s not a knife, it’s not hatchet or an ax it’s in between,” said Gerald White with Southtown Sporting Goods. “It’s something that’s a little lighter to handle larger than a knife you do a little heavier job with it.”
Surveyors, outdoor enthusiast, hunters and anglers are the people who most often buy the tool, White says.
Machetes can be very dangerous and directions on how to use them are on the back of packaging.
Gregory Aaron Kinsey, 20, is being held for capital murder in the deaths of Nathan Young, 32, and Brandon Prince, 39. The two men were stabbed to death, near the intersection of North 16th and North D Street in Fort Smith, before 10 p.m. Wednesday (June 26).
