Emergency crews in and around Siloam Springs responded Wednesday to a large hay field fire near the city, according to city emergency responders.

The fire was just off of Arkansas Highway 16 and Fullerton Road and encompassed about 30 acres, although it did not burn any structures. It has been contained, and authorities said it is not a danger.

The fire was the result of two separate calls to the same set of fields just outside of the city, according to the Siloam Springs Fire Department. Fire crews responded just after 3 p.m. after a farmer reported his hay field had caught fire. About 25 acres burned before firefighters contained the fire, according to the fire department.

Hours later, at 7:42 p.m., the fire department was called to another fire at the same set of fields. The fire burned about five acres, and crews spent about one hour and 45 minutes at the scene before heading back to the city following containment of the fire, according to the Siloam Springs Fire Department.

In a separate incident Wednesday just south of Siloam Springs, crews responded to a fire in a yard. Firefighters said a firework had been set off in the yard for the Fourth of July holiday, and the explosive caused about 40 feet of the home’s yard to burn.

The Siloam Springs Fire Department urged people to be careful while lighting fireworks because of the dry conditions.
