The most recent theft was Monday (July 1). During one of the thefts, the suspects stole a large amount of perfume. Police believe they’re highly skilled.
"We've got a group of approximately seven to ten people,” Det. Jeff Craighhead said. During the last two weeks they've hit JC Penney in Fort Smith three different times and selected over $4,000 worth of merchandise and left without paying."
Sgt. Daniel Grubbs believes the shoplifters are stealing the high dollar perfume and then selling it at half the value.
“We take this very seriously this is a black eye to our community, it's a black eye to the business,” he said.
The group works together. Grubbs believes the suspects could make a considerable living from selling the stolen goods.
“It's similar products, it's similar times of the day, there actions once they get into the area; it appears they have someone on the lookout,” he said.
