Almost a year after a woman died in a Fayetteville car crash, a 19-year-old Washington County man was arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide in connection with the wreck.
Nathan Sizemore, of Nob Hill, was arrested late Wednesday night. He was released the same day on $1,140 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Negligent homicide is a misdemeanor.
Sizemore was driving on Huntsville Road in Fayetteville last August, when his car crossed the center line and collided with a Jeep Liberty driven by Angela Strong, of Lincoln, according to an Arkansas State Police Crash report. Strong, 26, died from her injuries at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Officers, at the time, took samples of Sizemore’s blood to test for drugs and alcohol, but no arrest was made until now, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Strong was not wearing her seat-belt at the time of the accident, according to a police report. Strong’s 3-year-old son suffered a broken collar bone, said Sgt. Craig Stout with the Fayetteville Police Department. The boy was riding in a child’s safety seat in the backseat of the Jeep. Aaron McAbee, 21, who was riding in the passenger seat of Strong’s vehicle sustained serious leg injuries, according to Stout.
Sizemore and his passenger, Cody Whittle, 20, of Springdale, were both taken to Washington Regional Medical Center with serious leg injuries. Stout believes Whittle sustained a torn aorta during the crash.
Neither Sizemore or Strong appeared to be speeding at the time of the accident, Stout said. A witness told police Sizemore just drifted into oncoming traffic.
Stout said the road was wet and possibly slick due to rain that afternoon.
