The City of Elkins canceled its annual Fourth of July celebration and fireworks because it might be too hot for workers of the events, according to statements from the Washington County city.

Elkins is combining the planned Fourth of July events with a car and bike show, along with a craft fair and flea market for Elkins Fun Day on Sept. 7. The September event will also include fireworks, according to the city.

“We have combined our Fourth on the River celebration with our new September event, so it is not so hot for the families and workers,” according to a statement on Elkins’ Facebook page. “There will be fireworks on that day, as well as live music, craft booths, a car show and many other fun things!”

The city put the notice on its Facebook page Monday.
