Storms rolling through Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley on Wednesday night (July 10) left small pockets of damage, along with rain and wind.

Most of the damage in Washington County is minor, but one of the hardest hit areas was Prairie Grove.

Several limbs and small trees lay on the ground at the Civil War battlefield site in Prairie Grove. The storm pushed power lines down on Little Elm Road. At the storm's peak, Ozarks Electric power company showed 661 households without power, mostly in the area west of Fayetteville and near Prairie Grove. Crews spent the night restoring power and downed power lines.

Workers were out cleaning up tree limbs and branches scattered at the battlefield Thursday morning.

Julie Craig who lives near the battlefield ended up with a large limb from her neighbor’s tree in her backyard.

She says she didn’t even hear it come crashing down, but considers herself lucky that her property wasn't damaged.

The wind was coming from the north so it missed two buildings and the camper and just like it fell,” she said.

The damage was caused by heavy rain and winds up to 60 miles per blowing through the area.

“It only lasted for about 30 minutes, we had several good size tree limbs down on one spot on Mock Street,” said Cpl. Tim Standifer. “We had a power line down and phone line down and I believe on a couple of other streets like some telephone polls that were not down but they were leaning because of the winds.”

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southeastern Washington County, southwestern Madison County, northeastern Crawford County and northwestern Franklin County.

The warnings for Washington and Madison counties expired shortly after 9 p.m., while severe thunderstorm warnings were extended for Crawford County, Franklin County and the northeastern part of Sebastian County until 10 p.m.
