Bank Robbery Suspect Turns Himself In

A second suspect in a Fort Smith bank robbery turned himself in to authorities Wednesday morning (August 7).

Police say 20-year-old Brandon Tre Veon Knauls declined to talk to investigators after walking in to the Fort Smith Police Department to surrender, according to a police report. He had a warrant out for his arrest for aggravated robbery.

Knauls is being held at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center on a $75,000 bond.

Fort Smith Police arrested 19-year-old Jeremiah Franklin on a warrant for aggravated robbery Thursday night (Aug. 1).

Police say they received information that Franklin was in the area and wanted to turn himself in. He was taken into custody in an area of Bluff and South X Streets and booked into the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center on a $75,000 bond.

Franklin and Knauls are accused of robbing the First National Bank located at 2000 Midland Blvd. in Fort Smith on July 22.

Eyewitnesses told police that two black men walked into the bank and each confronted a First National bank teller and demanded money on July 22, said Sgt. Daniel Grubbs with the Fort Smith Police Department.

“Pretty soon after this call happened and a lot of the officers were flooding the area, we received a tip from a citizen and a neighbor that gave a vehicle description of a car that they believe had been circling the area,” Grubbs said.

That tip led authorities to what they say could’ve been the getaway vehicle.

“We took that information, sent it to officers out in the field and stopped them and were actually able to obtain some pretty valuable information that has basically led us to identifying two good suspects in this case,” Grubbs explained.
