An active jet stream pattern will bring the possibility of strong to severe storms to the area late Tuesday night into the early hours of Wednesday. This “northwest flow” in the jet stream is a favorable pattern for late night thunderstorm complexes that start to our northwest and roll into our area.
We expect storms to fire to our northwest in Kansas late Tuesday afternoon and track our way late Tuesday night into the early morning hours Wednesday. Storms will likely arrive in NWA after 10PM and in the River Valley and eastern Oklahoma after midnight.
Along with the possibility of damaging winds, the storms will bring heavy rain to the area as well. Some areas that have seen heavy rain lately could be prone to flash flooding overnight. This is a look at the RPM model’s accumulated rain projections for the storm complex Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Looking even more long term, another complex of storms will be possible late Friday into Saturday with the chance of more heavy rain. This could push the rain totals over the 5 day span close to 4 or 5 inches in certain areas.
