The Johnson County Peach Festival kicks off Thursday (July 25) and runs through the weekend in Clarksville.

It’s the 35th year for the annual event and one of the oldest festivals in the state, according to organizers. This year’s theme is “Peach on the Beach,” mixing the hot summer sun and water with the festival’s staple.

On Thursday, vendors will be set up with homemade food and handmade crafts. There will also be a scavenger hunt, a banana split making contest, talent show and free movie on the lawn in downtown Clarksville.

On Friday there will be tons of family-friendly contests, the Johnson County Peach Cobbler Bake-off and Jam & Jelly Bake-off, as well as live entertainment in the evening and a street dance.

Saturday’s events kick off with a 4-mile run at 7 a.m., followed by a fishing derby, greased pig chase, frog jump, turtle races and peach-eating contest. A parade on Main Street will start at 6 p.m., featuring this year’s Peach Festival Pageant Royalty as well as local businesses and organizations all vying for the best float prize.

The pre-registration fee for the race is $20.   Race day registration fee is $25.   All entrants will receive a t-Shirt.  Awards will be given. Entry forms may also be picked up at the Johnson County Chamber of Commerce. This event benefits both Children’s Miracle Network and the Johnson County Peach Festival Pageant Scholarship fund.  All money raised for the Children’s Miracle Network stays in the state of Arkansas and goes directly to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

The festival continues on Sunday with a horseshoe tournament and more shopping with local vendors.
