Much of the University of Arkansas campus was left without electricity temporarily Thursday because of a power line break.
About 25 buildings were left without power when a line on Dickson Street was cut at about 11:30 a.m., said Steve Voorhies, media relations manager for the university.
All but five of the buildings had backup generators, and facilities management crews bypassed the broken line, bringing power back to the buildings at about 12:45 p.m., Voorhies said.
The damaged cable will be repaired by university workers and high-voltage cable experts, according to the university. Buildings affected by the power outage were
the Harmon Avenue Parking Garage, the Mechanical Engineering Building, J.B. Hunt Hall, Willard J. Walker Hall, Kimpel Hall, Founders Hall, Gibson Hall, the Gibson Hall Annex, Gregson Hall, Brough Commons, Epley Hall, the Fine Arts Center, the Music Building, the Administration Building, Silas Hunt Hall, the Pat Walker Health Center, Holcombe Hall, Futrall Hall, the Garland Center, Davis Hall, University House, the Broyles Center, the Bev Lewis Center, the HPER building and the John McDonnell Field, according to a statement released by the University of Arkansas.
