1 Eliminated, 2 Headed For Runoff In Springdale Council Election
The battle for a vacated Springdale City Council seat ended without full resolution Tuesday night, as two of the candidates head for a runoff election next month.
Rick Culver finished the night with 368 votes (45 percent), edging out fellow candidate Mike Lawson, who finished with 333 votes (41 percent), according to election commissions in Washington and Benton counties.
Culver and Lawson will now move on to a runoff election Sept. 3 for the vacant Ward 4, Position 1 seat that opened up when Alderman Bobby Stout resigned in April. The race moves to a runoff election because no candidate Tuesday night topped 50 percent of the vote.
Mitch Miller finished the night with 112 votes (14 percent) and was eliminated from contention for the open seat, according to election commission results.
Voters from both counties participated in the election, since Springdale resides partially in Benton County.
