A Rogers man arrested this week in a 2011 McDonald County, Mo., shooting death is refusing to sign extradition paperwork to Missouri, drawing out the time it may take to transport him back to the county of the crime.
Authorities on Tuesday night arrested a Rogers man in connection with a murder case involving another Rogers man from 2011.
Fred Bremer, 39, was arrested in Fayetteville and transported to the Benton County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder, according to Missouri and Arkansas authorities. Bremer was arrested in connection with the death of Jack McCain, who died from a 2011 shooting, authorities said.
Bremer is accused of giving McCain a ride down Gobbler's Knob Road in McDonald County, under the pretense of helping McCain feed his animals, according to a probable cause statement form filled out by the McDonald County Sheriff.
Bremer "shot him repeatedly in the back while Jack was running away, thereby causing his death," according to the document.
Bond for the suspect was set Wednesday afternoon at $500,000. Bremer was presented with extradition paperwork to be transported to the McDonald County Sheriff's Office, but he refused to sign them, according to the Benton County Sheriff's Office.
Katharina Hines is one of Bremer's neighbors in Rogers, and she said she saw police come to Bremer's home Tuesday. The suspect wasn't home, and authorities ended up finding him in Fayetteville, according to Rogers police.
"We were wondering all day what was going on there," Hines said.
Hines said she doesn't know Bremer well, but she would see him playing with his son outside.
"He was, you know, like any other person," she said.
Bremer's arraignment in Benton County Circuit Court is scheduled for Aug. 26.
"In the meantime, the state of Missouri will start working on the governor's warrant to get him back to the state of Missouri," said Deputy Keshia Guyll with the Benton County Sheriff's Office.
