The 2012 season started with a bang for the Lincoln Wolves but it did not end quite as well.
Lincoln won its first four games last year but a 1-5 finish in the tough 4A-1 kept the Wolves from reaching the postseason. Just making the postseason won’t be good enough in 2013 according to head coach Brad Harris.
“Our goal this year is to make it to week twelve and that’s been our battle cry so far this year, so 5-5 is not acceptable for us,” Harris said.
“Anything under seven wins is going to be bad for us this year,” linebacker Colton Barnum added. “Like everybody has said, I think we should make it to the playoffs and win our first playoff game in school history.”
Drew Harris returns at quarterback for the Wolves after combining for 1,500 yards last season. Tyler Cummings returns for his senior season at running back. Cummings missed all of the 2012 season with a knee injury after rushing for 1,480 yards as a sophomore.
Barnum will lead the defense after being selected to the all-conference team last year as he made 120 tackles.
“We really feel like we are going to prove some things this year,” Harris said. “We are going to get some upsets and surprise some people.”
Lincoln kicks off the season with a back-to-back schools from Oklahoma, starting with Westville on Sept. 6 on the road.
