A $2 million grant from the Walton Family Foundation is helping the U.S. Marshals Museum in Fort Smith get one step closer to completion.

The USMM board hopes to break ground on the 52,260-squarefoot project on Sept. 24, 2014, which will be the 225th anniversary of the establishment of the marshals by President George Washington.

Awarded as part of the $50 million capital campaign, the grant is one of the largest contributions to the museum since the public phase of the campaign was announced in 2012.

The museum is expected to be built near the Harry E. Kelley Riverfront Park in downtown Fort Smith.
