Over the past decade, Huntsvillle has not played the kind of football they want to portray to the rest of the state, averaging less than three wins a season.
“It’s not at all,” said senior safety Tim Graham. “We’re a lot better this year because our team chemistry is better.”
“It’s just a better feeling knowing everyone is together and stays together,” said senior linebacker Robert Guerra.
Last year Huntsville had trouble keeping guys all in for the Eagles. Some players chose not to show up to practice. This summer, they don’t have that problem. Everybody is all in.
“It’s such a big deal because we are understaffed and undersized,” said senior defensive end Will Anderson. “But our boys have a lot of heart and our boys make up for it.”
Playing in a competitive 5a West, every week will be a grind. So the eagles have to find their own rhythm.
“We play together and no mistakes,” said senior quarterback Jakota Evans. “We have to play as a unit and can’t go off on our own and play our own game.”
It’s a program with little recent success, but this year’s team only cares about one thing.
“It’s not about winning,” said Guerra. “It’s about wanting to and that’s all we want to do.”
There’s definitely a new sense of team unity at Huntsville.
