A Sequoyah County toddler drowned in an above ground pool at a residence west of Muldrow, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Lakelyn Thornell, who was a little more than a year old, was found face down in the pool without a flotation device Wednesday (Aug. 22) just before 8 p.m., the fatality report states.
There were several adults in the area of the pool at the time, but none had realized the girl had gone into the pool, troopers say. They administered CPR and called 911. The little girl was taken to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith where she was pronounced dead.
The child had been playing with others around the pool, which had a deck and stairwell attached to it, the report stated.
