Springdale has struggled to rack up wins over the past six seasons including a 2013 campaign that saw the Bulldogs miss the playoffs.
“We felt like we were a much improved team over the year before,” said head coach Shane Patrick. “But we were really hampered with some injuries, especially late in the season. I thought we rallied and played well late in the season at times and had a chance to get in the playoffs and just weren’t able to get the job done.”
“We just weren’t really confident,” said senior safety Terry Mounce. “We just couldn’t finish games because we were tired and everything.”
There was no time to be tired this year as coach Patrick has had these kids put in a lot of hours these past 300 days but its not only sweat and hard work these kids have been improving on.
“This senior class has really stepped it up and done a great job.” said coach Patrick.
“We are going to be working on our attitude,” said Senior lineman Austin Jarrett. “We’ve got to have a winning attitude, something that’s been missing around here for a long time and that’s something us captains are trying to bring to the table.”
A better attitude is always crucial to improving, but the red dogs have a long schedule this season and although every game is big, these players have a few games circled already.
“Fayetteville and Bentonville,” said Senior safety Cua Rose. “That’s what I’m waiting for.”
“It would be playing Har-Ber,” said Austin Jarrett. “Having come from that side of town, its nice to play them and it would be nice to beat them too.”
