University of Arkansas and emergency officials ready to tackle the heat as temperatures soar into the upper 90s.
“First game of every year we see a number of heat-related emergencies, a lot of it is people drink alcohol during the day and they don't drink water,” said Steve Harrison, Central EMS Assistant Chief.
The the first home game of the season last year, Central EMS had more than 100 heat-related emergencies.
If the temperature reaches above 90 degrees Saturday it will be the hottest home opener in at least 13 years.
But Razorback fans say it won't stop them from watching the hogs take on the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns.
“We’re Arkansas boys it`s hot all summer long, I think we are used to it,” said student Alan McLanahan.
“It`s the first game, you have to come out and support the hogs, it`s going to be crazy, there`s going to be so many people supporting, even though it`s going to be hot, it`s going to be fun,” added Katie Gairhan, University of Arkansas student.
“This is Razorback Nation, you can`t just skip a game because it`s hot. We have people coming to games when it’s freezing with their shirts off so everyone is so dedicated to the hogs no matter what their winning or losing streak is, you support the hogs no matter what,” said Maggie Quam.
Harrison said there are several signs to look out for if you start to get over heated.
“People can experience dizziness, cramps, confusion and slurred speech. There`s a lot of that stuff that can happen and the more symptoms you have the worse it`s getting,” said Harrison.
Fans that might want to bring in an umbrella to the stadium to shield themselves from the sun's hot rays are out of luck as university rules prohibit it.
The university also does not allow water bottles in the stadium, however if the bottle is empty it will be allowed inside.
