For the first time since 2007 Fayetteville won’t have a quarterback named Allen on the roster. The reins have been passed to senior Mitch Marshall.
“It’s hyped up to be a lot of pressure, but I like it,” said Marshall. “I like the people that are under-sizing us. People are expecting us to have a down year and I don’t think we will.”
“This year we’re going to be playing with a little more heart,” said senior wide receiver Jordan Dennis. “We know we’re going to need it to get through the games.”
Fayetteville just sent three guys to the Razorbacks, including quarterback Austin Allen. All he did was lead Fayetteville to back-to-back state titles. So Marshall learned something from that.
“Being a leader, knowing how to run the offense and not just making all the right throws,” said Marshall.
“Mitch has really improved since three months ago,” said Dennis.” He’s really stepping up and making the throws that we need.”
But it’s not just the quarterback that’s new. The entire Fayetteville team has something to prove, because everyone will be talking about the success of the past. This is a new era.
“We have to step up and make our own name this year as a new class and new seniors,” said Dennis.
“It’s not going to just come to us,” said Marshall. “We have to keep working hard.”
They’ve handled adversity each of the past two seasons. Now they’re excited to do it again.
