Winning games has been the norm as long as Chris Bunch has been the head coach of the Spiro Bulldogs and the expectations are the same in 2013.
The long time coach returns 15 starters, including eight on offense, to a team that reached the postseason last fall.
“Right now we want to try to go undefeated,” Bunch said. “That is one of our main goals and I know we’ve got to get through Vian and that’s a big game there but if we can get through Vian we really feel like we’ve got a good chance to go undefeated the rest of the year after that.”
Spiro’s three biggest tests may come from teams located in Sequoyah County. Class 4A Muldrow will host Spiro in week two while the Bulldogs will host Roland in week nine.
One of the biggest changes to the Bulldogs this season will be the move of Trevon Mitchem from quarterback to receiver. Mitchem threw for more than 2,100 yards and 24 touchdowns the past two seasons but Bunch said he will be a bigger threat on the outside.
McKinley Whitfield makes the move to quarterback after hauling in 31 passes last season.
Cole McKinley returns to anchor the defense after racking up more than 150 stops over the past two seasons.
Spiro kicks off the season hosting Vian on Sept. 6.
