An offseason full of turmoil surrounding Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel will last for just a few more days.

The reigning Heisman Trophy winner was suspended today for the first half of the Aggies season opener against Rice. The suspension is a result of an agreement between the NCAA and the school after Manziel was being investigated for being paid to sign autographs.

The NCAA met for more than six hours with Manziel on Sunday in College Station, Texas and discussed the allegations with the red-shirt sophomore.

Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin refused to discuss the investigation but did talk about his quarterback in a SEC teleconference earlier today.

“Johnny’s handled it very well,” Sumlin said. “Everything around football, he’s been extremely sharp and focused.”

The Aggies open with home games against Rice and Sam Houston State before hosting defending national champion Alabama in week three.

Manziel threw for 3,706 yards and 26 touchdowns while he led the the SEC with 1,410 yards and added 21 more scores. Either Matt Joeckel or Kenny Hill will start for the Aggies on Saturday. They have attempted 11 passes combined in their college careers.
