Expectations are always high at Southside but the bar has been raised even higher for the 2013 season.
The Rebels have won eight or more games in each of the past five seasons but all eyes are on a trip to Little Rock in hopes of playing for a 7A state title.
“Work hard, come to practice and stay healthy,” senior quarterback Issac Jackson said. “Need to get our defense’s head screwed on right. Get our offense keep running the plays. Do what we’ve got to do.”
Jackson is being touted as one of the state’s best college prospects at quarterback after combining for 2,400 yards and 24 touchdowns last season.
“Issac is an outstanding quarterback,” Southside coach Jeff Williams said. “One of the tops in the state and he’s a guy that is a dual threat that can run it and throw it but I feel like this year we’ve got a good core of receivers, as good of a core we’ve had in a while. Three great running backs and we are excited about it.”
The defensive side of the ball has a few more questions for the Rebels as a new defensive coordinator takes over and must replace the entire secondary.
Southside kicks off the season on Sept. 6 hosting Rogers Heritage.
