Arkansas officials said an intern in the school’s marketing department was injured when a T-shirt air cannon malfunctioned during the Razorbacks’ season-opening football game against Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday.

The accident happened in the first quarter of the game when the intern was attempting to fire a T-shirt into the crowd at Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The cannon exploded for some reason and injured the man’s leg.

Officials said he was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center for treatment and the extent of his injuries were unknown. The school does not know the reason the launcher malfunction but officials said the explosion happened when the intern was preparing to fire.

The launcher that misfired was the single-shot gun that uses pressurized air from a tank to propel T-shirts into the crowd at various sporting events. The university also has a Gatling-style air gun that can rapidly fire multiple shirts.
