ARKANSAS ELECTIONS

Mike Lawson defeated Rick Culver in Tuesday night’s special election to fill an open seat on the Springdale City Council.

In results that spanned across northern Washington County and southern Benton County, Lawson received 491 votes (56 percent) to Culver’s 379 votes (44 percent), according to the election commissions for the two counties. A portion of Springdale is located in Benton County.

Lawson and Culver were the victors in the special election Aug. 13 that narrowed the field to the two candidates. They beat out Mitch Miller, who finished that night with 112 votes (14 percent). Culver that night finished with 368 votes (45 percent) to Lawson’s 333 votes (41 percent).

Lawson will now take over the vacant Ward 4, Position 1 seat on the City Council that opened up when Alderman Bobby Stout resigned in April.
