Community members are working together to raise money to replace an informational sign at their local library.

Friends of the Van Buren Public Library want to replace this digital sign after a possible lightning strike cut its signal.

A spokesperson for the library says the sign is expected to cost about $16,000 to replace. They say the sign is important because it helps advertise the various programs happening at the library.

A yard sale will be held at the library this Saturday (Sept. 7) with all proceeds going towards buying a new sign. Donations for the yard sale will be accepted Thursday evening and all day Friday.

Librarian Bridgette Waid says people can donate household items, clothing and any other items they’d like to donate.

“One person’s trash is another person’s treasure,” said Waid. “We’re hoping to get a lot of variety of everything.”

The yard sale will be held at the library (1409 Main St.) beginning at 7:30 Saturday morning.
