Woman Who Hit Child With Car Faces Drunk Driving Charge

The woman who hit a 4-year-old boy with her car Tuesday night was intoxicated at the time, Springdale police said Wednesday.Kuhlman

Police said Diane Kuhlman, 45, was driving along Stagecoach Avenue at about 7:30 p.m., when the boy ran out into the road. Her gray Toyota Corolla hit the child, after which she called 911, according to police.

The boy was rushed to Northwest Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, including scrapes and bruises, police said. He was alert and conscious when he was transported by the ambulance.

Kuhlman submitted to a breath test, whose result showed sufficient evidence that she was intoxicated, police said. She was arrested and released.

The boy’s uncle was home and he identified the boy as Noah Moses. He said Moses is in the Intensive Care Unit and is doing OK. He said he’s not sure when Moses will be released from the hospital.

Yevir de la Cruz is friends with the little boy. He said Moses was playing soccer when the ball went across the road.

“The kid was going for it, then the older brother said ‘stop,’ he didn’t listen,” de la Cruz said. “He kept through the street and he got hit by the car.”

He said all of his friends ran to Moses.

“Some kids grouped around him, then an adult came and picked him up,” de la Cruz said. “I felt really sad.”

Irma Salazar said she was outside when the accident happened. She’s upset Kuhlman was allegedly driving intoxicated and said she’s worried about the children.

“I think that’s horrible,” Salazar said. “We have our children and today it’s him, tomorrow it can be mine. I don’t want to see another accident.”

She would like the city to help the community by placing some safety measures.

“We would like the city to lower the speed limit on this road, maybe place speed bumps or signs warning drivers to be cautious of kids,” Salazar said.

An eyewitness said the driver told police she was driving at 25 miles per hour, but the eyewitness thought the car was traveling faster than that.
