A semi-annual consignment sale aimed at saving parents money on children's clothing and other necessities began Thursday (Sept. 5) at the Kay Rogers Park Expo Center (4400 Midland Blvd.) in Fort Smith.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the Growing Kids Sale, according to event organizer Kim Hoelzeman. She said approximately 2,000 families have consigned their gently used fall and winter kids items.

"We've got clothes and shoes, and we've got high chairs, strollers, pack-and-plays," said Hoelzeman. She added that children's furniture and room decor would be available beginning Friday morning (Sept. 6).

Nellie Guinn from Van Buren has been shopping at the Growing Kids Sale for six years. She said she can save a lot of money on quality clothing for her granddaughter.

"I set myself a hundred-dollar limit, and I get everything that I need for the winter," she said. Guinn estimates she saves $200-$300 each time she shops at the consignment event.

Hoelzeman said it's not just the shoppers who benefit from the three-day event.

"Our consigners, they make 70 percent of what they sell," she said. "So many families come in here and they get everything they need for their kids for the whole season and they break even."

The event will take place Thursday-Saturday (Sept. 5-7) from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
