Elderly Man Killed in Mulberry House Fire
A 66-year-old Mulberry man was killed in a early morning house fire Monday (Sept. 9), according to police.
The District 2 Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a home at 123 Church Ave. shortly before midnight, Crawford County Chief Deputy Jimmy Damante said.
Gerald William Snyder’s body was removed from the home later that morning and sent to the state crime lab, said Mulberry Police Chief Shannon Gregory.
His wife, Anita, was seriously injured. Chief Gregory said she was taken by helicopter to a Little Rock hospital. She survived with the help of her grandchildren.
“The kids pulled the grandma out in time,” said neighbor Rebecca Painter. “She was covered in black with smoke all over her.”
A family friend of Anita said she is being treated for smoke inhalation and expected to make a recovery soon.
Arkansas State Police are investigating the cause of the fire, but Chief Gregory says it does not appear to be suspicious.
The home is considered a total loss, the chief said.
